Incredibly Talented

The MS Multimedia class is full of incredibly talented kids.

Today I asked the welcoming question, “How are you?”, and I received the quite normal, and uplifting responses: “wonderful;” “great!;” and “awesome.” Uplifting, for sure, for we could have heard the proverbial, “okay;” “not bad;” or worse, “crappy.”

I thought about their replies and considered, “incredibly talented”. To be sure, the fact that these students are attending an international school in a country that is not their passport country, in and of itself tells a story of vision and perseverance. Not one student believed they could walk when they were born, and while they don’t remember learning the skill, they surely worked at the skill development to a high degree of proficiency. Some of them can even run – and a few, while not admitting it, can dance.

I see in my students an untapped reservoir of knowledge, skills and potential. All of them are multilingual. Each one, third-culture. They all possess unique experiences and yet, have so much in common. My job, as a communications teacher is to unearth or uncover the greatness within; to confirm what they already know; to hone and develop skills that will unlock their destiny.

In my classroom, there is no room for mediocrity. The MS Multimedia class is full of incredibly talented kids.
